Win A part of Island History

Gathering Ground is auctioning off this original painting by Island artist Stephan M. Lynch. It depicts the historic Koyen Family Farm. Oils on stoneware. Mounted on reclaimed wood. 17.5 in x 17.5 in

“This oil painting on stoneware was inspired by a photograph by Steve Waldron, a respected Washington Island artist, teacher and naturalist. The tilled earth of the field supports the old farm tucked under an autumn sky. Stoneware as a ground is a metaphor for fundamentals. Earth, air, fire and water are essentials for the farm which is a primary life support system for human society.” –Steve Lynch

With a vision for thriving communities connected to the environment and their food through work and play, we focus on sustainable farming practices including diverse fruit and nut orchards, integrating sheep, low-environmental-impact management for fruit, and promotion of biodiversity. Gathering Ground offers an educational internship for young people interested in regenerative agriculture, conservation, and environmentalism, as well as programs for all ages, including our annual Dinner in the Vineyard, a celebration of local food and drink among our vines.
