A Model for Community Compost in Milwaukee

Compost, nature’s black gold, the stuff that makes plants in your garden grow strong and healthy, is nothing to turn your nose up at. If done correctly, compost has no smell. Unlike rotting trash, composting is aerobic (with oxygen) process that turns organic material (paper, fruit peels, coffee grounds) back into soil.

Usually composting is done in backyards or on farms concerned for soil health, but this urban group started asking all the restaurants on popular street for their food scraps and it’s become a very successful program.
